OUR ADVENTURES

CANYONEERING – GUIDED TRIP (Advanced)

"An absolutely unbelievable adventure. Definitely not for the faint of heart."

Canyoneering comes in many shapes and forms, from relaxing adventures to full-on all-out craziness. Our Advanced trips are for adventurers looking to turn up the difficulty in one of a variety of ways; maybe with more technical ropework and longer or more challenging rappels, maybe with cliffjumping and natural water slides, maybe with high waterflow canyons, and maybe in ultra-narrow slots. Regardless of what you go with, these trips are intense, full-day canyons for experienced adventurers only, located in a variety of locations in SoCal, Nevada, and Utah. These canyons have round-trip time estimate of 6-12hrs, depending on group size, canyon conditions, and general level of fitness. While these adventures are definitely some of the most intense and amazing guided trips that SCAC offers to clients in the LA region, it is important to note that these is an extreme adventure, and they absolutely require a higher level of physical fitness and mental toughness than our standard offerings. The actual hiking distance varies by route and ranges from three to fifteen miles, but due to the rugged nature of the trails, the exertion level is often not necessarily correlated to the distance traveled, so be aware of the prerequisite level of fitness presented to you by our guides when choosing a destination, and some of our most extreme trips require participation on other SCAC adventures to gauge your readiness and prep you for what you are getting into. That being said, these trips are some amazing adventures, and definitely something that hardcore adventurers will not want to miss.

Canyoneering is a rapidly growing sport in Southern California that combines elements of hiking and climbing, with an emphasis on technical rope work for the rappels. This is a great step up for anyone who enjoys hiking in beautiful areas; canyoneering adds an exciting technical aspect to raise the adventure level beyond what any hike can provide, while still not requiring extensive technical training when done with a guide. Canyoneering can be done year-round, but each canyoneer should bring water (three liters), snacks, sunscreen, and a full wetsuit if seasonally applicable, along with other gear recommended by the guide for your specific route and conditions. If you do not have a wetsuit, they are available for rent through the SCAC. These canyons are extremely physically demanding, so all reservations will have a mandatory SCAC fitness screening to ensure all adventurers will be up to the day in front of them.
